Club Slogan: Liberty, Intelligence and our Nations safety
Our club is one of over 46,000 clubs worldwide, part of an international organization with over 1.4 million members in 193 countries! The first Lion’s Club was formed in 1917, “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else”, was the personal code of the founder, Melvin Jones. The Poquoson Lions Club was chartered in 1948 with the intent of offering people the opportunity to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. Our intent is to allow members to unite in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding and to encourage service-minded people to serve their community. Our goal is to do together what one person could not do alone.
Our club is part of District 24-I, Region IV, Zone J. Region IV includes the Peninsula and Northern Neck and is further divided into three Zones. Zone I consisting of Gloucester and the Northern Neck; Zone J consisting of Williamsburg, Poquoson, York County, and New Kent County; and Zone K consisting of Hampton and Newport News. You will find links on this website to the District 24-I website, the Poquoson Leos Club, and either links to the websites of the other 16 Lion’s Clubs in Region IV or a listing of when and where they meet and how to contact them. We have also included the same information for the York and Matthews Lion’s Clubs, which our club originally sponsored.
If you are interested in joining the Poquoson Lions Club please come by one of our meetings held every first and third Thursday of the month at the Poquoson Community Center at 49 Odd Road in Poquoson Virginia. The dinner meetings are held at 6:30PM and we would love to see you there. If you just can not wait to get involved please visit our Fundraiser or Community Programs web pages. They will give you the information you need to get in contact with the program leaders and how you can help. If you ever need any other information please feel free to contact the Lions Club Secretary, Dan Lange, at 868-7183 and he will put you in contact with the individual or individuals that can assist you.
I hope you find this site interesting and informative, and please take a minute and provide us feedback through our Guestbook. I am privileged and honored to be part of this organization and to have this opportunity to serve as club president as we live our motto, “We Serve”.
