Welcome to the Poquoson Lions Club Web Site

Welcome to the Poquoson Lions Club website.  This site is designed to provide information about the Poquoson Lions club to members, potential members and those interested in knowing more about Lions. This site provides a calendar of events, our monthly newsletter, club committees, as well links to other useful Lions websites and information.

Our club is one of over 46,000 clubs worldwide, part of an international organization with over 1.3 million members in 193 countries!  The first Lion’s Club was formed in 1917, “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else”, was the personal code of the founder, Melvin Jones.  The Poquoson Lions Club has been serving the community for 62 years, and was chartered in 1948 with the intent of offering people the opportunity to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.  Our intent is to allow members to unite in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding and to encourage service-minded people to serve their community.  Our goal is to do together what one person could not do alone.

As with all Lions Clubs our service projects concentrate on sight and hearing conservation, diabetes awareness and youth activities.  However, we have and will always adapt to the needs or our community from providing assistance after Hurricane Isabel to helping needy families with basic subsistence.

I hope you find this site interesting and informative, and please take a minute and provide us feedback through our Guestbook.  I am privileged and honored to be part of this organization and to have this opportunity to serve as club president as we live our motto, “We Serve”.

Lion BT Smith

Our club is part of District 24D, Region I, Zone B.  Region I includes the Peninsula and Northern Neck and is further divided into Zones.  Zone A, Gloucester and the Northern Neck and Zone B, comprising the Peninsula, New Kent and Williamsburg.  You will find links on this website to the Region 24D website, the Poquoson Leos Club and either links to the websites of the other 14 Lion’s Clubs in Region I Zone B or a listing of when and where they meet and how to contact them.  We have also included the same information for the Matthews Lion’s Club, which our club originally sponsored.

Lion News

lcifDear Lions,

Dear Fellow Lion,

Since I last wrote you, we have all learned more about the extent of the devastation in Haiti. At Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), we have also learned more about the situation on the ground from the Lions of Haiti. My heart goes out to all the Lions in Haiti, who have been personally affected by this disaster, losing at least two club members as well as many close relatives. Yet they have put aside their own needs to help their community. LCIF is working non-stop with Lions of that area to support "Lions Hope for Haiti."

Lions Hope for Haiti has mobilized more than US$350,000, to date. Lions around the world are responding generously and quickly to the LCIF designated fund for this disaster. Donations are continuing to pour in from individuals, clubs and districts, and I thank all of you who have already pledged your support.
